Heads up to anyone shipping goods from Nigeria to the United States:
DHL has announced delays for all shipments with a customs value above $800 due to updated U.S. regulations.
Here’s what Nigerian exporters need to know:
• All shipments valued over $800 now require formal customs clearance (the previous threshold was $2,500).
• This new rule applies to all countries, including Nigeria, effective April 21, 2025 (today).
• Simplified clearance is no longer available for shipments above this value.
• You must provide proof of origin and the U.S. receiver’s Tax ID (SSN or EIN) before shipping.
• Expect customs delays and longer transit times for affected shipments.
If you’re shipping from Nigeria to the U.S., plan ahead and consult DHL or your agent for assistance.
